Humourous Song For A Little Girl

"Have You Seen My Doll?"

If you please I am almost distracted

I've hunted all over the place

I've pulled all the clothes off the bedstead

But I can't find a mite of a trace

I've torn off the antimacassar

From every sofa and chair

And I've smashed all the plates on the dresser

But my darling I cannot find them there

Chorus

Please have you seen my dolly

The one I most admire

Her eyes were blue as violets

Her proper name was Mary

We used to call her Poll

Oh, tell me have you seen her?

Oh dear, I've lost my doll!

She was such a pretty creature

Though her head had a very large crack

And last week I melted her nose off

And the sawdust came out of the back

From her legs Tommy tore off the leather

And painted them over with ink

And really I cannot tell whether

But her arms are both broken I think

Chorus

Please have you seen my dolly

The one I most admire

Her eyes were blue as violets

Her proper name was Mary

We used to call her Poll

Oh, tell me have you seen her?

Oh dear, I've lost my doll!

She may have got into the saucepan

And been boiled with the chicken and ham

Or she might have got into the larder

And been drowned in the pickles or jam!

She may have been thrown in the copper

Or torn into bits by the cat

Or she may have been sent to the mangle

And mangled out perfectly flat.

Chorus

Please have you seen my dolly

The one I most admire

Her eyes were blue as violets

Her proper name was Mary

We used to call her Poll

Oh, tell me have you seen her?

Oh dear, I've lost my doll!

Perhaps she's been thrown out of window

Or tossed out along with the dust

Oh, dear me, I really must find her

Or go mad I certainly must!

Wherever, where can I have put her?

Her loss now I really can't bear!

Why! what's this I've got in my pocket?

Now who could have put her in there?

Chorus

Please have you seen my dolly

The one I most admire

Her eyes were blue as violets

Her proper name was Mary

We used to call her Poll

Oh, tell me have you seen her?

Oh dear, I've lost my doll!

Ma says I must know where I put her

If I did, why I'm sure I forgot

Just look at the time I have wasted!

Oh, these dolls are a troublesome lot!

I found her, you know, with such trouble

(Oh, no, if you please, do not laugh!)

I wanted to bend her just double

And she's broken herself just in half!

Chorus

Please have you seen my dolly

The one I most admire

Her eyes were blue as violets

Her proper name was Mary

We used to call her Poll

Oh, tell me have you seen her?

Oh dear, I've lost my doll!
